Horse riding lessons are a great way to achieve your riding goals, improve confidence and self esteem, or just get you started! We cater for complete beginners through to clients who have experience but want to further their riding ability.

Lessons are held in a fully fenced, 20m x 60m sand arena. Our horses are specifically trained and are very quiet and forgiving. We can tailor your lessons to meet your goals, or we can use our own progressive lesson format to cover everything from saddling, mounting and horse care, right through to confidently riding in walk, trot and canter.

Lessons are suitable for children aged 6 and over and adults of all ages. We have ponies and larger horses available for lessons.

We offer a 30 minute lesson which is great for younger kids and a one hour lesson for older children and adults. This includes ground time, so in a one hour lesson, expect to spend about 45 minutes in saddle.

Port Macquarie private horse riding lessons are fun and a great way to improve your skills quickly and safely.

BOOKING TERMS: As lesson times are highly sought after and bookings are generally full, it is important to give as much notice of any changes or cancellations as possible.

Lessons cancelled within 24 hours of the booking time will be made payable in full. This policy will be strictly adhered to.

Booking Terms:

If we are experiencing poor weather, PMHRC staff will assess if it is safe to proceed with lessons or not and contact you at least one hour before your lesson time. Please remember it may be raining where you are, but it may not be raining at the riding school as coastal weather patterns differ to ours from time to time.  We will often proceed in showers, so pack a rain coat as the arena is nice and safe even if it’s a bit wet under foot.

Please arrive 15 mins before your start time. If you are late, your lesson will still conclude at the scheduled time as we do not run late for our next bookings.

A waiver of liability must be completed before your first lesson.

Accepted methods of payment,

Please pay in cash, or eftpos before the start of your lesson. Direct Deposits will not be accepted.

Suitable clothing and footwear:

Please wear long pants and covered shoes. If you think you will be riding regularly, it is recommended that you invest in a pair of riding boots; jodhpurs and your own helmet (please make sure you check the safety standard on your new helmet, it must meet the updated standards that were introduced 1 Jan 2017 AS/NZS3838. There are many online stores selling old stock for cheap EN1384 is no longer valid.) There are a few places selling gear locally for reasonable prices, these include SP produce Blackbutt rd Port Macquarie and Wauchope Rural supplies (near Timbertown).

Please contact us if you would like any further information before your first lesson.

Important Information:

My child has never ridden before, can they participate?

Yes, most certainly. Your child will be instructed and watched very closely and will be led off the coach’s horse, or by a member of staff until they have reached a competent level of riding.

First time & beginner riders will be on a lead rope until the staff are confident the child can safely and responsibly control their horse including full balance, emergency stopping and steering.

Horse Riding is a dangerous activity. All riders will be required to sign a waiver of liability form before commencing the ride. All riders must wear a helmet and correct footwear. All riders must listen and obey the instructors and trail guides at all times, or they will be asked to dismount their horse, and no refunds will be given.

Please be advised that all horse rides are subject to availability of a suitable horse. Helmets MUST be worn at all times when riding a horse. You are encouraged to bring your own helmet, THIS MUST MEET AUSTRALIAN SAFETY STANDARDS UPDATED 1 JAN 2017 . But we do provide them free of charge.

The minimum age for lessons and trail rides is 6. Led pony rides are available for children under the age of 6 years old. We do not have weight restrictions, however, for the safety and the welfare of our animals, you must be fit, healthy and able to safely mount a horse and comfortably ride in a stock saddle. (Please be aware, that we cannot guarantee that a suitable horse will be available for people over 110kgs at all times, so please be sure to enquire with us first to ensure availability)

Please leave any valuable items, mobile phones, handbags or backpacks in your vehicle. If that is not possible, ask one of our staff members at the office to store it safely for you. We recommend you bring sunscreen and a hat, a shirt with sleeves for protection from the sun so you can make the most of your Port Macquarie trail rides.
